Prime Minister Justin Trudeau is scheduled to leave this afternoon to attend the APEC summit in Lima, Peru, followed by the G20 summit in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
The two summits aim to improve multilateral institutions that have raised doubts on the part of US President-elect Donald Trump.

In Peru, Trudeau will participate in meetings of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC), which largely involves resolving barriers to trade and forging better links across the Pacific region.
The Prime Minister is scheduled to leave on Saturday for Brazil to attend the G20 summit for discussions ranging from the war in Ukraine to artificial intelligence and ending hunger.

The two summits will include meeting with other heads of government in official meetings in addition to side talks.
Analysts say it will be important for Canada to try to maintain strong ties with many countries, as the looming Trump administration plans to raise tariffs and could disrupt global trade flows.
