Ontario Premier Doug Ford outlined his proposed energy plan, dubbed “Fortress Am-Can,” calling it a “renewed strategic alliance between Canada and America.”
Ford made the announcement on Wednesday, saying the plan aims to achieve US-Canadian energy security and promote economic growth for both countries, and “is a beacon of long-term stability, security and prosperity.”
This announcement comes amid threats of huge tariffs and comments about the acquisition made by US President-elect Donald Trump against Canada.
“Our country is not for sale. It never will be for sale. But I believe we are working together to reach an amazing trade agreement,” Ford said Wednesday.
Ford added that he wants to “stop wasting time and silly ideas about integration” and focus efforts on “Made in Canada” and “Made in the USA.”

“With a new administration set to take office in the White House, our government has an ambitious plan to build a fortress-am-Can usher in a new American and Canadian century characterized by unprecedented growth, job creation and prosperity. We can only do this by acting,” Ford said. Together and respect each other.”
“Fortress Am-Can should be powered by Am-Can energy of every kind produced and consumed and create jobs in every region of both countries,” Ford continued. “With our fleet of nuclear power plants and the first small modular nuclear reactors in the G7, Ontario is uniquely positioned to power the future of Fortress Am-Can.”
As part of building Fortress Am-Can, the government said it is recommending several additional actions, including establishing a cross-border working group with U.S. and Canadian lawmakers along with industry experts to align regulations and best practices amid the threats and eliminate red tape.
It also recommends encouraging more Canadian energy and electricity exports to the United States, including clean nuclear power in Ontario, to support growth on both sides of the border, and promoting new and existing electricity transmission on inland roads and natural gas and oil pipelines between Canada and America. United States, among other measures.
The government said the plan would leverage Ontario’s “unique advantages” to help the United States bring jobs back home “while decoupling from China.”
“This diverse supply mix, including nuclear, hydropower, energy storage, hydrogen, renewable energy, natural gas and other fuels, can provide good jobs, economic prosperity and protect the shared national security interests of Ontario, Canada and the United States,” the government said. .
