Dockworkers at the Port of Montreal are scheduled to stop working for 24 hours starting Sunday morning in an effort to pile pressure on management amid a labor crisis.
The union representing nearly 1,200 workers at the country’s second-largest port says it served notice Thursday to stop work completely.

The move comes on top of an ongoing strike over overtime shifts that began two weeks ago and a three-day strike at two container terminals that ended earlier this month.
The upcoming sit-in also follows a failed attempt by the federal labor minister to freeze the work stoppage and renew talks through a private mediator, with contract negotiations now stalled.
