State health officials said the bird flu virus was detected in a sample of raw milk from a dairy in Fresno, California.
The state Department of Public Health said Sunday that a sample obtained from a store tested positive on Nov. 21 during routine screening by Santa Clara County health officials.
Dairy company, Raw Farm, has issued a voluntary recall of one batch of raw whole milk with a best purchase date of November 27.
“Consumers should immediately return any leftover product to the store where it was purchased,” the state Department of Health said in a statement.

The administration said pasteurized milk remains safe to drink.

On Friday, health officials confirmed that a child had been infected with bird flu in California, the first case reported in an American minor.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said the child had mild symptoms and was treated with antiviral medications and is recovering.
The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said there have been at least 55 cases of bird flu in the United States this year, including 29 in California. Most of them were farmworkers who tested positive with mild symptoms.
The H5N1 avian influenza virus has spread widely in the United States among wild birds, poultry and a number of other animals over the past few years.
It began spreading in US dairy cows in March. California has become the epicenter of the outbreak, with 402 infected herds detected there since August.
