Taiwan and China were divided in 1949 during the civil war that brought the Communists to power in China. The defeated nationalists fled to Taiwan and established a competitive government there. Taiwan has its government and military, but it has never announced its official independence from China.
“We urge the United States to … to stop encouraging and supporting Taiwan independence and avoiding more relations between China and the United States, peace and stability of Taiwan Strait,” said Qouh when he was asked about the review at a daily media conference.
Taiwan Strait is a narrow waterway that separates Taiwan Island from the East Coast in China.

The Taiwan government welcomed this step, although a statement was sent to the Associated Press on Monday, which did not mention the language specifically.

The government in Taiwan is concerned that Trump may not be steadfast from the island’s supporters like his predecessor, former President Joe Biden.
The United States does not recognize Taiwan as a country, but it is the strongest supporter and the largest arms supplier.
Trump said last week that Taiwan, a semiconductor maker, had taken chips out of the United States and that he wanted to return.
China, which says Taiwan must undergo control, has risen from military exercises throughout the island of 23 million people in recent years.
