Hundreds of people are gathering today in cities across Canada to remember the victims of the Hamas attack on Israel on October 7 and the hostages who have not yet returned to their homeland.
In the country’s capital, Israeli flags were raised over participants in front of Ottawa City Hall, and Canadian flags fluttered alongside them as they demanded the release of hostages still being held in Gaza.
They are expected to march alongside an increased police presence at Parliament House, where a Liberal MP and a Conservative MP will be among those to deliver speeches at an event to mark the somber anniversary.

In Toronto, some politicians and community members are joining a march in support of Israel and the hostages that has been held every week since October 7, 2023.
A pro-Palestinian demonstration is scheduled to take place in Montreal’s Dorchester Square this afternoon, the second such event to be held in the city this weekend.

The Hamas incursion into Israel last October 7 led to the killing of more than 1,200 Israelis and the taking of about 240 hostages, leading to an Israeli counter-attack in Gaza that the regional Ministry of Health says left more than 41,000 dead.
