The US-Canadian alliance is stronger thanks to Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, US President Joe Biden said in a statement a day after Trudeau announced he would resign.
“Over the past decade, Prime Minister Trudeau has led with commitment, optimism and strategic vision. The alliance between the United States and Canada became stronger thanks to him. Biden said he was “proud” to call Trudeau his friend and would be “forever grateful for his partnership and leadership.”

“Despite efforts to resolve this issue, Parliament has been paralyzed for months after the longest session of a minority Parliament in Canadian history,” Trudeau said, speaking outside his Ottawa residence on Monday.
“That is why I informed the Governor-General this morning that we need a new session of Parliament. I have agreed to this request and the House will be adjourned until 24 March.
Trudeau also added that over the holidays, he had a chance to reflect on his political future and decided to step down to make way for a new leader.
“I intend to resign from my position as party leader, as prime minister, after the party chooses its next leader through a vigorous, competitive, nationwide process,” Trudeau said.
