Skygazers around the world were on edge this week, as the largest and brightest moon of the season appeared in the night sky – the supergiant Hunter Moon.
This week’s full moon was the “Hunter’s Moon,” the name given to the October full moon — the full moon that occurs just after the fall harvest. While it peaked just before 7:30 a.m. EST on Thursday, the lunar phenomenon has been visible over several recent evenings.
According to NASA, the supermoon of the Hunter was visible from Tuesday evening until Friday morning. Here are some photos taken from around the world.

This was the third of four supermoons this year, and also the brightest, albeit by a small margin.

According to the Farmers’ Almanac, this refers to the time of year when leaves begin to fall, making it easier for hunters to spot the animals.

A supermoon occurs when the distance between the Earth and the Moon is at its lowest point, making the Moon appear larger and brighter than usual.
The next supermoon, the last of the year, is scheduled to occur on November 15.
